Chef Luna Throws a Feast at JR
Cigars

Cigar-smoking Washingtonians experienced a unique pre-
Memorial Day treat at
JR Cigars this afternoon.

Chef Paul Luna prepared a smoky interpretation of lunch at
the downtown tobacco shop, including a taste of his
homemade smoked mozzarella.

“There is nothing better than being with good friends and
smoking a good cigar,” said Luna, as he scanned the
crowded and smoky store. "This is one way I can share my
passion for living."


Store manager John Sullivan who moved through more
smoke than usual was also pleased with the event.

“When you know Chef Luna, an event like this is once in a
lifetime,” he said. “The man knows cigars, he knows how to
throw an event and he definitely knows his food.”

During the Lunchtime Smokeout, Sullivan and Luna offered
a free cigar to customers who purchased three JR Ultimate
cigars -- and to those who bought a box, a free Figurado
lighter.

Also known as the city’s largest walk-in humidor, Luna has
been known spend some time smoking some of his favorite
"puros" there between shifts as executive chef at the Oval
Room.

Once known as a "
bad boy chef" in Atlanta, Luna’s culinary
background includes work with some of the world’s finest
chefs from Michele Attali at Petrossian in Paris, Terrance
Brennan at New York City’s Picholine, and Gianni Scappin of
Bice Ristorante, Milan.
